Did you ever know that you're my hero?
You mean to say that it has taken you all this time to actually post some damn cocktail recipes?!
Yeah. Well, suck it up. I had to warm you up with background info first.
So, this post will have RECIPES. Yes. It's true. Recipes.
However, since I am a huge MCU nerd, and we have an impending major holiday coming up, I thought I'd jazz this bitch up a little bit by doing themed cocktails based on our favorite superheroes. Sounds childish? Meh.
The way I see it, our country could use a little whimsy right now given the massive dour news week.
Either way, these cocktails are tasty and delicious-with homemade ingredients and produce. What more could you ask for. Trust me, no one will call you a pussy for drinking my Captain Marvel-ous Margarita. I got your back.
Without further ado-Mama T's Marvel-ous Summer Sippers.
Enjoy!
The First Avenger:
1 oz. Blue Curacao
1 oz. Chambord Raspberry Liqueur
1/2 oz. Malibu rum
1 oz. lemonade
1. Fill a collins glass 3/4 full-with ice.
2. Pour in your Chambord liqueur first and let it settle to the bottom. Try to pour it in-on the side of the glass so that you can avoid most of the ice cubes from leaching the color along the way.
3. In a separate shaker cup-add your lemonade and your malibu together and stir.
4. Get a soup spoon and flip over to the convex side, with the concave side down. Lightly pour the lemonade and Malibu mixture over the spoon as slowly as you can and into the glass.
5. Use the same spoon and do the same thing with the Blue Curacao.
It should look like this:
Alternately-you can blend each color with ice and layer if your technique needs work-it happens. But, be forewarned, this is time consuming and requires either three separate blenders, or a lot of patience with one blender.
Garnish with an American paper flag, two regular maraschino cherries, and two blueberries on the swizzle. You can rim it with red or blue pop rocks if you want the jazz hands version, or if you want to scare grandma into a heart attack. Either way, it's all in fun.
Like Captain America's ass-this is America's drink. It tastes different though. I mean, I'm guessing anyway.
The Widow's Bite:
This one can alternately be made for a Halloween drink, so keep it in your repertoire.
1.5 oz Blavod Black Vodka
1 oz Dekuyper Razmatazz Schnapps
1/2 oz Pomegranate juice OR Tart Cherry Juice
Splash of lemonade
1 tsp of edible silver glitter
Grenadine float
1. In a metal shaker-add two scoops of ice, the Blavod vodka, Schnapps, lemonade, glitter, and pomegranate/cherry juice. Shake until your hand is cold on the cup. (Be careful not to shake too vigorously-or you will "break" the cocktail and ice crystals will form-damaging the integrity of the flavor profile-and hiding the glitter look.)
2. Add the shaken mixture to a large martini glass-no ice!
3. Add your grenadine float to the top. Be sparing.
4. Garnish with a plastic spider ring with a fresh blackberry inside the ring and do your best to anchor it to the side of the glass. If it will not hold there, let it float.
There is an alternate way to make this if you can't find Blavod black vodka-but typically, all liquor stores have it. Binny's and Friar Tuck usually carry it. However- you can add a small spoon of activated charcoal to a white vodka and mix together to get the same look if necessary.
Blavod just makes it easier.
I have made it both ways and it tastes the same.
Edible glitter can be found at most craft stores like Hobby Lobby, or Michaels. But local bake shops might have it as well.
This is what it should look like: (minus the garnishes)
A tasty non-traditional vodka martini with a little whimsy. Try it sometime, it's really a very good tasting drink-with a lot of seggsy-time attitude and The Black Widow's approved tart-bite.
Captain Marvel-ous Margarita:
This is a blended or frozen take on a traditional golden margarita. Mar-Vell, Rambeau, Danvers and even Goose prefer them to the plain old margarita.
1 oz Don Julio Golden Tequila.
1 oz Chambord Raspberry liqueur
1 oz Tuaca Liqueur
Splash of Triple Sec liqueur
1/2 oz fresh squeezed lime juice (Do NOT use Rose's Lime-it has added sugar and takes away from the agave flavor!)
1/2 oz simple syrup
1. Run a slice of lime around the rim of a large, very cold (prior refrigerated) or frozen margarita glass or goblet, then dip into a plate of blue raspberry pop rocks mixed with coarse kosher salt. You can macerate them together with your mortar and pestle or using your muddler so they are a little finer if you like, or if the salt is having trouble sticking in its coarse state. (it happens)
2. Add the 1 oz of Chambord to the margarita glass and put back into a freezer for holding.
3. In a blender-add two scoops of cubed ice, Don Julio, Galliano, simple syrup, fresh lime juice, and splash of Triple Sec. Blend until slushie consistency-checking for any large ice chunks. You want it to be smooth, so ice chunks don't clog the straw. Color should be a solid golden yellow. If not, you can add a drop or two of yellow food coloring if need be.
4. Pour the frozen contents of the blender into the margarita glass over the Chambord. It should sit nicely on top of the Chambord-making it layered.
Garnish with a lime wheel also coated in the blue pop rocks and salt combo. Pour a small swirl of grenadine over the top of the frozen contents-lightly.
Sadly, I don't have an image of this one, as it is 100% original and there are no duplicates out there to show you. I don't have any pop rocks laying around to make one myself right now so I can show you the entire look, sorry folks.
Either way, I'm told that it is super tasty if you like margaritas/tequila. I've also been told it is the best margarita a few of my patrons had ever tasted.
I'll take their word for it, as tequila makes me gag. But, to each his or her own, as they say.
Captain Marvel just looks like she's a Tequila makes her clothes fall off kinda chick, so...I'm sure she would dig it too.
Lastly-
The Darkhold:
A livelier and tastier take on a multi-liquor punch. Which packs a punch, just like the Scarlet Witch, herself.
1 oz vodka
1 oz Dekuyper Strawberry Schnapps
1 oz Chambord Raspberry Liqueur
1 oz Stella Rosa Rosso Wine
1 oz Triple Sec
1/4 oz fresh squeezed lime juice
Splash of sprite, spash of tart cherry juice.
Grenadine float
1. In a Hurricane Glass-fill to the top with crushed ice.
2. Add all of the above liquor to the glass.
3. Fill with sprite and tart cherry juice.
4. Add grenadine float.
Garnish with a fresh strawberry and mandarin orange wheel that has been dipped in fine sugar.
It looks something like this:
I mean, as the standard Long Island, Alabama Slammer, Hurricane type of multi liquor drink goes-this one actually tastes good. It's fruity, light, and easy to drink. Perhaps too easy. It's casts a spell of inebriation over the drinker. Use wisely.
And I have done my patriotic duty in mixology today. I hope that you have a great 4th of July Weekend, be responsible, don't drink and drive, dumbass.
Dirty Laundry Friday will have to wait until next week-because I have shit to do and you have to go blow your hands off lighting driveway fireworks.
Have so much fun!
Next up...a series. We're going to talk about pairings. You'll wanna be around for them-especially if you like good beverages with good food. I got the downlow.
Hulk Smashed.
XOXO,
